The title, Esquina refers to the Spanish and Portuguese word for an exterior projecting corner: it defines the meeting of two planes or pathways which often becomes a meeting place for people too. Integrated into the structure of the new architecture by Stanton Williams at Emmanuel College, this work responds to the ancient Oriental Plane in the grounds.

Built in stone & set in brick, a drawing in negative relief was carved into Ancaster Hard White limestone, making a continuous light-sensitive surface turning the corner, designed to capture shifting light and shadow throughout the day.

With Esquina Susanna pursues a form of drawing, not unrelated to the archaeological mapping of a landscape, where light reveals subtle relief and the presence of something hidden within the surface.

Booking for the 2:00 – 2:40 pm talk, Saturday 9 September 2023 is advised.
